For example, our founder: Roads to Rome Private Tours was created by Giovanni, an archaeologist who is still involved in archaeological digs and research, even if he works mainly as a tour guide and leads most of our tours in person. After he finished his studies, Giovanni founded Roads to Rome Private Tours and started working as a tour guide.
He wanted his company not to provide normal, boring group tours, but high quality private and tailored tours. He wanted to take his clients to the places where he had dug, and share his direct knowledge of the sights with them. Also, he wanted his tours to be fun and engaging, so that anyone could appreciate the incredible treasures of Rome and Italy. Most of all though, he wanted to create a company that would have designed tours according to your needs and interests.

“While planning our 4-day stay in Rome, I decided to go with a private tour over a semi or group tour because I wanted to “see it all” (my first visit to Rome) … and boy did I make the right decision! From the start, Giovanni was excellent in communication via email. Despite our 6-hour time difference, he always replied to my emails within 24 hours. He considered all the things I wanted to see (which was almost everything), understood our personal interests (religious and historical) and with his professional experience, he created a customized itinerary over the 4 days we were there. Our 4-day tour was perfect! Giovanni spent essentially the whole day with us for all 4 days. We spent about 30 hours with him in total. Our tours were extensive and included: City tour (Pantheon, Spanish Steps, Piazza Navona, Trevi Fountain), Catacombs, Church of Quo Vadis, Basilica of St. Paul, Church of San Giovanni in Laterano, Church of Holy Cross, Borghese Gallery, Colosseum, Forum, Palatine Hill, Ostia Antica, Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel, St. Peter’s Basilica, and the Papal Audience.
A tour with Giovanni is like no other. He is an experienced archeologist who’s knowledge and passion for ancient Rome is unmatched by any other tour guide/company; He is a native Italian who taught us more about the beautiful Italian culture; He is fluent in English (excellent!) which is fully appreciated when you realize how much talking/teaching he is doing throughout your tour; He is professional and punctual; Lastly, he was great to be around for the 4 days! My husband and I truly enjoyed our time with Giovanni. I fell in love with Rome because of his tours. I found the history of Rome to be fascinating – the ancient history, political history, art history, religious history, and WORLD history – all in the city of Rome! Disclosure: I am NOT a historian by any stretch of the imagination… But I do appreciate knowledge. So, if you are looking for a tour that is intellectual and doesn’t skim the surface, then this is it!
The cost to tour privately with Giovanni is reasonable. Yes, it’s more than a group tour, but you get what you pay for! When I watched the big group tours pass me during our visit, so many of them looked bored and many of them took off their ear piece (especially the kids!). Don’t waste your money on big tours, invest your money with Giovanni. You will leave with a greater appreciation of the Eternal City”
